It should have been fourty-two

I was in SLC the other day and one of my friends came over and showed me a piece of paper with this on it:

He asked if I knew how to solve it. Not waiting for an answer, he said it was equal to 6. Upon seeing my puzzlement at his solution, he then proceeded to prove it:

Today, Ms. Sturt, the bio teacher, was talking about genetic disorders in sperm. Unclear about what was being explained, Farzan asked, "So when you have a trisomy or a monosomy you are like a retarded sperm?" Ms. Sturt replied back saying, "I think for PC reasons we should just call them imperfect sperm." Farzan responded, "Well then are there preterit sperms too?" OAIA
